Product Overview
The Fixed X-Stream® Air Amplifier from Nex Flow® is a zinc die cast unit (smaller sizes) or die cast aluminum (larger sizes) able to hold up in the most rugged required installations in manufacturing operations. It is the most popular air amplifier and suitable for most applications for blow off, cooling, or venting. The air amplifier works utilizing the Coanda effect, essentially converting pressure normally lost as noise into a useful, amplified, and high velocity laminar flow.
The gap where the compressed air exits the amplifier is preset with a stainless steel shim, normally .002”. The gap can be adjusted by adding additional shims to increase the force required and for the outlet flow. Four sizes are available – ¾”, 1-1/4”. 2” and 4”. Shim sizes available in .002” and .003” sizes and can be stacked.
The Fixed X-Stream® Air Amplifier from Nex Flow® is easy to mount using the mounting holes on each unit. Essentially maintenance free, they are easy to use reducing both compressed air consumption and noise levels. These quiet units can amplify airflows up to 16 times their input air consumption rate. When the amplifiers do not have an attachment at the amplified air exit, there is another additional air amplification of 3 times more. Overall air flow can therefore be amplified up to 48 times the compressed air consumed!
For blow off applications for drying they are suitably designed to get into corners, and blow off parts such as the tops and bottoms of cans, scooping out water from recessed corners. In cooling, the most common sizes are the 1-1/4” and 2” units. They can be especially efficient and fast in cooling hot parts when they have an extra shim added (using gaps of .004” or more). When used for venting, they entrain a large volume of surrounding air making them ideal for removing dust from grinding operations, welding fumes from welding stations and even from robotic welding systems due to their compact design.
Either end of the Fixed X-Stream® Air Amplifier may be ducted using hose or pipe to collect or transfer light materials, fumes, and dust. This will reduce the air amplification to around 10:1 due to back pressure created by the attachments, but they will still be much more efficient than eductors or venture systems in moving air or any vented gas.

How Fixed X-Stream® Air Amplifier Work
A small amount of compressed air enters the annular chamber at point (A) that is then throttled through a small ring nozzle at high velocity and into the inside of the amplifier over a Coanda profile. The compressed air stream clings to the Coanda profile as it enters the inside walls of the amplifier and thereby creating a vacuum that induces the outside air at point (B) converting the pressure into the amplified airflow. The amplified of airflow leaves at the exit at point (C). Airflow is further amplified downstream at point (D) by entraining additional air from the surroundings at the exit.
Performance
Die Cast Fixed X-Stream® Air Amplifier come standard with a .002″ (.05 mm) shim to control the compressed air exit gap which will work for 90% of all applications encountered. If greater force is required, more .002″ (.05mm) shims or a .003″ (.07mm) shim may be installed to open the gap for greater flow.
